I need all details by next Friday (May 22) so I can compile them and fax them to Bruce at True North. Below are some suggestions of organizations Bruce is directly involved with. If you have others suggestions for the list, do post them. USC Canada www.uscanada.org They work in community-based development projects in the Third World that are designed to help the people involved become self-sufficient. Bruce has been involved with them for 25 years and recently went to Mali with them. Friends of the Earth (sorry no url.) Bruce is the honouary Chair of FoE Canada Honour the Earth www.honorearth.com They are a group of several organizations who are working on environmental issues on the traditional lands of native peoples. Bruce contributed Wise Users to a Honour the Earth CD. The US Campaign to Ban Landmines www.vvaf.org As the recent news from DC attests, the landmines campaign is far from over. First, my understanding of the intent of this "Humans" thing is to discuss Bruce's work in a respectful and thoughtful way. By definition then it does mean there are some topics that are likely to be inappropriate for public discussion. As per a previous posting, which indicated Bruce's distaste for excessive probing into his personal life, it would be useful for those who participate in discussions to bear this in mind. Second, your assertion that it doesn't matter who says what or who potentially could read it, Bruce does avail himself of the list's contents on occasion, is troublesome indeed. Our need/right to know about Bruce's personal life, I believe, comes far down the list of purposes for this discussion group, if it's on that list at all. There will no doubt be times that his personal situation bears comment. Certainly his art will reflect what he is dealing with and to that end we will comment as appropriate. Am I saying that I've never speculated about Bruce's personal circumstances? No, of course I have. I would however not be comfortable spending time discussing his personal circumstances in a public forum as I feel it's not a respectful thing to do nor very useful. If there is factual information that is relevant to a discussion I feel it is appropriate to include it. The trashy tabloid stuff is best left to the trashy tabloids though. Anyway, enough of my babbling. I didn't intend to sound self-righteous, if I did I apologize. As I said above though I thought Audrey's posting was well stated. Those who seized on the age thing, Bruce and younger females, as her main point missed it quite entirely I think. Ooooooooooops, I'm babbling again. Occasionally I remove the arrow from my "head" (see your initial comments). Cheers, Steve Martin ------------------------------ End of Humans Digest V2 #762 ****************************
